Chapter 4: Definitely Not In Central Anymore!

(or, Just What the Hell is She Talking About??)

They had apparently stepped into some child’s storybook.  At least, that’s what it looked like.  Everything was so…whimsical.  They were at the edge of a little (and apparently empty) town, just before a wide bridge.  There were huge, brightly colored flowers everywhere.  The buildings, also brightly colored, were short, squat, and didn’t look real.  None of it looked real, and it was all so cute.  There was simply no other way to describe it.

After standing in stupefied silence for a few moments, Ed finally found his voice.

            “…Al? I don’t think we’re in Central anymore.”

Al nodded, and they started to walk into the town, across the bridge.  They needed some answers, and the only way to find them was to look.

Suddenly, a small bubble of light came floating gently towards them.   As it got closer, Ed could’ve sworn he saw a tiny figure inside the bubble.  Then, when the bubble was right in front of them, it silently burst, and a figure emerged.  Standing in front of them was Winry.  She was clad in a shimmering pink ball gown that would’ve put Cinderella to shame, and on her head was a crown that looked remarkably like a lampshade.

“Are you good alchemists, or bad alchemists?” she asked in a somewhat dreamy voice.

Once again, the boys were stunned into silence.  This time, it was Al who found his voice first.

“Uh…Winry?  Where are we?  What are you doing here?”

“And just what the hell are you wearing?” Ed finally said.

She looked mildly surprised.  “How did you know my name, stranger?  Do I know you?  And I always wear this.” She sounded just a tad indignant now, too.

“…what are you talking about?  You’re Winry Rockbell! We’ve known each other since we were kids!  It’s us, Edward and Alphonse Elric!” Ed cried, pointing to himself and his brother as he said their names.

“Rock…bell?  Hmm.  You must have me confused with someone else,” she said, smiling.  “My name is Winry, the Good Witch of the North.  Now are you good alchemists, or bad alchemists?” she asked again.

Ed and Al both sighed and looked each other in silent agreement.  Either Winry had gone crazy, or they had.

“Why do you need to know?”  Ed asked.

“It’s the Munchkins.  They wish to know,” she said simply.

“…And, what exactly are ‘Munchkins’?  And you never said where we were,” Al said politely.

She giggled a little.  “Why, you’re in Munchkinland!  And these are Munchkins…come out, everyone!  I believe they’re good alchemists!” she spoke the latter part louder, as if calling to someone in hiding.

Suddenly, there were eyes and faces peeking out from windows, behind doors, through bushes, and even from behind the giant flowers…

........ ooh, creepy ending, ne? ^^
